Event Details

Another celebration of our 135th birthday year! We will "float" back to school with a root beer float party on Friday, August 23rd from 4pm-5:30pm at 526 Braddock Ave.

Did you know that ice cream floats were invented in Pennsylvania in 1874? Commercially produced root beer also traces its roots (pun intended!) to Pennsylvania, as pharmacist Charles Hires began bottling and selling the beverage he coined "root beer" in 1886. So just around the same time that the Braddock Carnegie Library opened, people in the area could have been tasting root beer ice cream floats for the first time!

Thank you to our 135th Birthday Illuminate Sponsor, Epic Metals, for making this program possible!
